No matter how well a trip to the grocery goes, there are always a few incidents or casualties (my pride is always one of them). Today for example, even though the children were very well behaved Nina still managed to open up the yogurt we were about to purchase. At least she tends to tell me when she misbehaves. "Nina open it herself," she exclaimed as she looked up at me with giant eyes.
The central pitfall of today's adventures was much worse than the usual mess or tears, I suffered an injury. I would like to say this is the first time I have injured myself at the grocery, but shamefully it is not. As we were checking out a woman was picking up an empty food pouch Nathan tossed on the floor. I turned to her and thanked her and then with my usual haphazard speed I turned around with gusto to hop back in front of the credit card machine. Instead of moving forward however I bounced backward as my thigh collided with the a plastic edge jutting out for grocery bags to be filled on. Everyone of course saw this and heard my exclamations of shock and pain. I limped out of the store, both pride and thigh muscle damaged. It has been less than an hour and my leg is swollen and beginning to discolor.
Maybe one day I will learn to slow down and do things carefully. Or maybe I won't.
Wishing you all a wonderful day and safe shopping!
